Puberty in twins?
My daughter is 13 and 1/2 and she doesn't have her period and is still "flat as a board" and her twin brother has definitly hit purberty. I got my period when I had just turned 13 and her sister got it when she was almost 13. Is this normal, or should I be worried. Oh and she is a Gymnast and trains 20 hours a week.
Even identical twins can start puberty at different times. Everyone is different and though family trends are good guidelines they don't tell us anything exact.
My mother started her period at 11 and her sister at 16.
Low body fat and high periods of exercise delay menarche as fat helps store estrogen and estrogen helps with the menstrual cycle.
Be happy she not going through that yet.
On a side note, my above mentioned aunt started at 16, had 5 children in her 20's and had her uterus out at 32 years old. That's only about 10-11 years of having a period... I'm 28 and I've had more than that. I'm so jealous.
I was a competitive gymnast and started my period at 10 years old, one of my coaches wanted to give me pills to squash it. Puberty is generally not good for gymnastics as tiny and not in pain is better.
